Nigeria: President says he has report on corrupt judges
Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has lashed out at judges, some of whom he says are taking bribes according to intelligence reports he has seen, reports the Vanguard. Addressing the All Judges' Conference in Abuja, the president said he was troubled by the intelligence reports. 'It is worth reminding our judges that no litigants will feel satisfied that justice has been done once he knows that the other party had seen the judge behind his back.* Closely allied to this is the issue of corruption and bribe taking among a few of our judges,' he said.

But Obasanjo has approved the appointment of 21 new judges into the Federal High Courts and High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, reports THISDAY. The appointment was based on the recommendations of the National Judicial Council (NJC). The appointment of the judges comes as two legal practitioners, one of whom is serving a four-year sentence for conspiracy and forgery, had their names struck out from the roll of legal practitioners in the country.
